VLOG anyone?

I’m going to make a concerted effort to do more videos for both books and art, hence a “video blog” or “vlog.” I enjoy shooting videos, which harkens back to my “one-woman-band” days as a reporter/videographer for KWWL-TV, an NBC affiliate in my home state of Iowa. I learned film editing in college at KPNX-TV where I did an internship, literally taping film pieces together, then was taught the now old-school videotape editing at KWWL, and in the past several years have taught myself non-linear digital editing.

Today I can use my iPhone or my iPad to get really high quality video and photos. There are any number of editing softwares out there, but I learned with iMovie, and because it’s on all my platforms, I’m sticking with that - even tho iMovie on the computer is different from that on the phone and that on the ipad! I have to remember where I shot certain items to be able to find them again and upload.

For those of you who are daunted by video, you may ask “And you are doing this - why?” And that’s a good question. Is it for the challenge of it? Is it to eventually monitize my YouTube channel? To sell more art? To waste time??? Or is to get more traction on my social media pages and hopefully increase subscribers?

For whatever reason, including the “ham” in me who enjoys performing, it’s also a good dopamine jolt when I’m done with it!
